The city of Bangkok has been invaded by enormous structures. They have appeared almost overnight. They are sprouting everywhere, even on top of multi-storey buildings. This sudden realisation makes me think of War of the Worlds.
In fact, these are advertising billboards and the reason why they began to appear so suddenly is becuase the network of elevated highways has just been completed and is now open to traffic. Since these highways are thirty meters above ground, all the advertising that used to be at ground level is no longer going to be visible to motorists using the new highways. Hence the advertising has to be raised appropriately.
Finally, in my mind, I link these Warl of the Wolds monsters to the adverts that so swiftly create consumerism and further entrench globalization's hold in countries around the world.
